A yoga pavilion and a breathtaking structure called the Sanctum will be the focal point for CHI, the Spa’s signature treatments, which feature Chinese and Himalayan therapies inspired by the origins of the Shangri-La legend.

Understanding Ch'i

In traditional Chinese philosophy, ch'i is the universal life force that governs well-being and personal vitality. For people to maintain good health, it is believed that ch'i must flow freely within the body.

Exercise, stretching, massage, hydrotherapy and movement of the mind through relaxation and meditation combine to assist the body's natural renewal, forming the basis of the Chi experience.

  • Phone:(66 53) 253 700
  • Hours:10am - 8pm
  • Location:CHI, The Spa Village located at the back of the hotel near by swimming pool.

Your Element Sign

Developed by a team of experts, our signature therapies are based on the traditional Five Elements Theory, in which Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth are in balance to harmonise with the positive yang and negative yin energy within the body.

We invite you to take our simple online questionnaire to discover your personal element sign. Knowing your element sign helps our therapists customise the spa experience to your specific tastes and preferences.

How to Spa

Meeting your needs

Upon your arrival at CHi, The Spa, your Receptionist will conduct a brief consultation to determine your five element sign and ensure that you have the treatments best suited to your needs. Please advise the Receptionist if you are pregnant or have any health issues. Our Receptionists are experienced in all treatments and would be delighted to assist you in planning your spa programme if you are staying in the hotel for more than one day.

Preparing for your treatment

For ladies, no preparation is necessary. Turn up and enjoy! For men, we recommend shaving prior to having a facial for maximum comfort and benefit to the skin. Other treatments require no preparation.

What to wear

There is no need to bring or wear any special clothing, as spa wear is provided in your treatment suite. Facial gowns are provided for facials, as are Thai pyjamas for Thai massage. Comfortable underwear is provided for all other body treatments and massages.

Privacy

Your privacy will be protected at all times. Your Therapist will leave you to change in private and throughout the treatment you will be draped with towels, covering all parts of the body not being treated. Ladies will be given the option of including the bust area in all body treatments.

Reservations

Advance booking prior to intended treatment time is recommended. Please either call or visit CHI, the Spa should you wish to discuss your personalised treatment.

Arriving time

To make the most of your spa experience, please arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment.

Late arrivals

In the event that you are running late, we will endeavor to conduct your full treatment. However, please note that the treatment may need to be shortened should there be another booking immediately afterward.

Spa ettiquette

To preserve the harmony within the spa kindly turn off your mobile phone.

Minimum age

To maintain a peaceful environment, children under 16 years are not permitted in the spa.

Cancellation

In consideration of other spa guests, as your treatment requires that facilities be reserved, we request a minimum of 12 hours' notice if you are unable to keep your appointment. Please call our staff, who will be happy to reschedule. No shows or appointments cancelled within 12 hours will incur a 50 percent cancellation fee.

Your comfort

Although we do our best to anticipate your needs, we appreciate that a spa is a very individual experience. Please let your Therapist know if there is any way that she can improve your treatment or comfort - for example, heavier or lighter massage pressure, an extra towel, sound or lighting levels, etc. We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to kindly fill in a Guest Questionnaire following your treatment.

Traveller Guide
Health

At an altitude of approximately 310 meters above sea level, Chiang Mai sits on the Mae Ping River basin approximately 700 kilometres from Bangkok, Thailand. Surrounded by high mountain ranges the terrain is mainly comprised of jungles and mountains, which are home to many fascinating hill tribes. Chiang Mai is a fascinating city with a rich 700-year history and is home to more than 300 temples.

Walk, cycle or take a rickshaw down the small quiet lanes within the moated old town that is framed remnants of the old city wall. Explore the many curio and antique shops housed in teakwood structures. Bargain your way to the best finds in the famous Night Bazaar. Hop on an elephant’s back as it takes you on a trek up the rolling mountains just 20 minutes north of the city. Wander around shady tree-lined lanes that lead to numerous temples.

Elephant Camp

Chiang Mai has one of the largest assemblies of elephants in Thailand. Mae Sa and Mae Wang elephant camps provide a natural and healthy environment for the elephants while working to conserve and breed them. Visitors can enjoy elephant shows or treks up into the mountains.

Shopping

The goods and products one can find in Chiang Mai range from Northern Thai traditional products like handicraft, silks, umbrellas and teakwood furniture to silver ornaments, orchids and herbal concoctions. The famous Night Bazaar comprises street side pavilions and shopping stalls that offer Thai traditional products in a heart of Chiang Mai City. Thapae Road has long been known as a centre of art, writing and handicrafts. This is the biggest market on Sunday and is very popular with visitors and tourists.

Temples

Chiang Mai's temples are perhaps the most interesting of its many attractions. Unlike Bangkok, where few temples are more than 200 years old, some temples in Chiang Mai are as old as the city, which celebrated it's 700th anniversary in 1996.The one temple every first-time visitor should see is the mountain-top Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. The temple is a must-see, not only for its importance as a pilgrimage site, but also for the outstanding views it affords of the city and its surrounding plains, when the weather cooperates. A trip to the temple is usually combined with a stop at the royal Phu Phing Palace and the Doi Pui Maeo village.

Museum

Chiang Mai National Museum is the main regional museum of the north. The Fine Arts Department has assigned this museum to be the centre of education and preservation of art and culture of Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand, the old Lanna Kingdom. Chiang Mai City Museum showcases Chiang Mai‘s historical background and cultural heritage, with a centre for studying the history, art and culture of Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai Zoo and Night Safari

Chiang Mai Zoo is the first and only zoo in Northern Thailand where visitors can experience the excitement and intimacy of encountering various species of animal in their natural habitat.

The Night Safari is located at Doi Suthep – Pui National Park, which cover 324 acres consisting of mixed deciduous and dry dipterocarp forest.

Location
map

Located on Chang Klan Road, the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai is within easy walking distance of the city's famous Night Bazaar and boutiques. Situated in a lush garden setting, the hotel is just a 10-minute drive from Chiang Mai International Airport. It also enjoys close proximity to fascinating museums, cultural centers, soft adventure excursions and Chiang Mai's numerous temples, shops, art galleries and retail boutiques.

Airport Connections

The Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai is only a 10-minute drive from Chiang Mai International Airport. Taxis and limousine services can be found on the ground floor of the domestic and international arrival halls.

If you would like us to arrange an airport pick-up for you, simply provide your airline name, flight number, and estimated time of arrival when you make your room booking online, or contact the hotel directly at least one day in advance.

Hotel Limousine Charges for Airport Pick-up.

Taxis

Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, though dense traffic in the centre can make even short distances a long trip. Taxis cost approximately THB34 for the first two kilometres, then about THB3.4 for each kilometre thereafter.

Red Minibus

Red Minibus is the most common means of transportation in town. Passengers can hop in and out as they wish. Simply tell the driver the destination and negotiate the price before boarding. Fares range from THB34 (depending on the distance).

Train

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has a computer reservation system for sleeping berths on rapid and express night trains and reclining seats on the faster 'sprinter' service. The lower sleeping berth in second class (air-conditioned or fan) is a little more comfortable than the upper. Rapid and Express trains have dining cars, and vendors sell drinks and snacks.

Car Rental

All major car rental companies such as AVIS, Budget, and Hertz, as well as Thai car rental companies, are ready to provide suggestions on travel itineraries. The easiest way to locate a car rental company is to ask at the airport or the hotel, as those are the places where most companies are located.

Tuk-tuks

A noisy, motorized three-wheeler with covered seats, the tuk-tuk is really only suitable for short journeys. Prices must be agreed beforehand. Note that tuk-tuk drivers often receive commissions from local establishments, and may drop you off in front of a business you did not request to go to.
